Baby Blankie

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu

AlhumduliLlah, I managed to finish my crocheted baby blankie in pretty good time! It's a gift for someone special..a little last minute, so I really thought I wouldn't be able to get it done.

I couldn't find a simple yet pretty pattern in my limited time-frame.. so I made up my own. Here it is! Forgive me for the unprofessional instructions.. I can clear up any questions, if need be.

Finished size: approximately 30" x 30" (not including ruffle border)
Blanket: 2 skeins, sports weight, 160g (each)
Ruffle Border: 90g, sports weight
Crochet hook size: US 5mm - H8

Blanket
Chain 133
Sc in each st across (132)

Row 1: Dc in each st, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), *skip 1 st, dc in next st, dc in skipped st; (repeat from *)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st, turn.
Repeat rows 1-3 for pattern, until desired size, or yarn is done. Please keep track of stitches every so often.

Ruffle Border
Put hook through one corner of blanket and pull out contrasting yarn, leave a 4" tail and sl st to secure.
Dc 10 times in same corner st.
Dc 5 times in next st. (repeat around blanket edges).
note: at each corner stitch, dc 10 times.

The Flower:
Started of using this pattern, Lazy Shell Flower.. but then I got side tracked on row 3 and did my own thing, which I probably could never repeat and can't put in words..sorry.

So there we have it. Enjoy.

Cute! I use most patterns as guideline and make changes as I go along. I think it makes things even more special that way. Not only did you make them a blanket but you personalized it just for them.

Jazak'Allah, jazak'Allah :)

Insha'Allah I hope you get the opportunity to try it out, it really is useful and fun. I found knitting easier to learn, but I like crochet better...now that I have an idea of both.

Wa'alaykum as-salaam wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu my dearest sister Amani!!!!

What a nice surprise. I was wondering where you were hiding..(I can't access your blog either).

Jazak'Allah for the lovely comment.

Humm.. you can check out this site:
http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/baby_blankets.php
they have enough blanket patterns to make you tired of looking :D

If all else fails.. just make up your own pattern. Or use a plain stitch..but make the colours the highlight of it.

Insha'Allah you are keeping well. Keep me posted on things your end.

as salamu 'alaykum

I have no skills when it comes to this. My mom, however, is so good, masha'Allah. She tried on many occasions to teach me, but I failed. I would love to learn tho.

But my point of responding was to say... that is a lovely blankie. Lovely, masha'Allah. : )

Wa'alaykum as-salaam wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu my dearest sister Asmaa,

I am sooo happy to see you! And very excited you joined the swap :)

Jazak'Allah for the lovely comment.

You know.. maybe try buying a book and following that. I had asked my mom to teach me to crochet, and it was frustrating because I couldn't even determine what a stitch was!..hehe but after going through "Happy Hooker" by, Debbie Stroller.. I followed through step by step..I know can make things, and know what a stitch is! Insha'Allah if you get the chance, try it out again :)

Jazak'Allah for the lovely comment, much appreciated. I am sure you'll be able to pick up crochet really, really quick..especially since you can knit. Please give it a try :)

Yes..I totally agree, it is so nice to give someone something I made myself. (And just as nice to receive something handmade). AlhumduliLlah, Allah has truely blessed us to do wonderful things with our hands.
